MapPilot


The Advisory Unit is running the Ordnance Survey / Becta National Digital Map Data Supply Service Pilot for Schools (MapPilot) project in collaboration with a commercial digital map supplier, eMapSite.com, to deliver certain OS map data to schools and Local Authorities.

The project runs until July 2008 when we report to OS and Becta on the technical aspects of the service. The Geographical Association and Royal Geographical Society will be evaluating curriculum use of digital map data in a selection of the participating schools.

Howe Dell Eco School

This exciting new primary school development on the old De Havilland airfield site in Hatfield is being built with sustainable energy systems. The Advisory Unit is working with the school to create software for pupils to explore and understand how the energy systems operate.

We are also taking weather data from the Advisory Unit’s Weather Reporter installed on the rooftop outdoor classroom to compare with the school’s energy use. Pupils will be able to model energy requirements under different weather conditions.
