Williamsburg colonial town, a historic centre in Virginia, USA, provides the setting for this AEGIS case study with maps showing tourism, shopping and functions of the CBD.
Each map has a series of activities, supported by teachers’ guides and help sheets for pupils. The pack is aimed at Years 8 and 9, but could also provide an introduction to GCSE work.
Each topic has background information and context, suggested teaching approaches, interactive lesson on AEGIS 3, extension activities and follow up work
Pupils can explore nearly 100 photographs and accompanying notes of different aspects of the town on the interactive maps for each topic. The photographs and other materials were specially commissioned from Gareth Heazell, a KS3 teacher who is a regular visitor to Williamsburg.
There are extension tasks on European shopping and comparing Williamsburg with UK tourist cities.
